Personal profile

Biography

I am a Professor of High Voltage Engineering and Head of the High Voltage Research Group within the Power and Energy Division in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I obtained the BEng degree in electrical engineering (2005) and the MEng degree in high voltage and electrical insulation (2008) from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China, and the PhD Degree in electrical power engineering (2011) from The University of Manchester in UK. I joined the University of Manchester as a lecturer in 2012. I am a senior member of IEEE, the Chair of Cigre D1.01 Advisory Group on Dielectric Liquids, an associate editor of IET High Voltage Journal. My research focuses on dielectric fluids and their applications in high voltage power equipment including characterisation of advanced dielectric liquids, discharge and breakdown mechanisms of dielectric liquids and liquid/solid interfaces, novel ageing indicators of liquid-solid insulation system, dynamic thermal rating and asset management of power transformers. I am also working on general high voltage testing and insulation system design. I have experience working with transmission and distribution utilities, high voltage equipment manufacturer and insulation material providers. I have published more than 150 research papers on top-class peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. I have delivered multiple invited/keynote speeches in leading international conferences. My students have often received Best student paper/presentation awards in international conferences.
