Personal profile

Biography

I am a PhD candidate in Politics at the University of Manchester. Before coming to Manchester, I obtained an LLB in international politics from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University (China) and a MA in international relations from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London.

My research focuses on the question of how China executes normative contestation and resistance regarding the norms of human protection – in particular, the Protection of Civilians (POC), Responsibility to Protect (R2P), and development assistance – and deals with the interaction between China’s traditional interpretation of sovereignty and liberal norms through a historical and cultural lens. It also analyses the impacts of China’s norm contestation on the effectiveness of human protection and the international normative order. My research project is supervised by Dr Jess Gifkins and Prof James Pattison.

I am the convenor of the Early Career Researcher Workshop at the Manchester China Institute. I am also a teaching assistant in the Politics Department and have been awarded the Associate Fellowship of Advance HE (AFHEA).
