Accepting PhD Students
I am a Reader in Design within the Fashion Business and Technology Discipline on a Teaching and Scholarship contract. As the Scholarship Theme Lead for the Department of Materials, I mentor colleagues in developing their scholarship profiles and projects. My teaching spans several undergraduate units in Fashion Buying, Fashion Product Development, and Fashion Business Strategy, and I supervise both postgraduate taught (PGT) and PhD projects.
Beyond teaching, I serve as a coordinator for the FSE Teaching and Scholarship Network and am a member of the Steering Committee for the University of Manchester’s Teaching and Scholarship Group, as well as an active member of the University Belonging Network.
In recognition of my commitment to teaching excellence, I have been awarded my Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and the Teaching Excellence Award, I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Teaching and Learning. My professional contributions extend nationally as an external examiner and programme validator for leading fashion institutions across the UK.
My research and scholarship interests focus on product development, trend forecasting, and design communication through co-creation, industry partnership and digital technologies, with applications in both commercial and academic settings, as well as in pedagogy. My current scholarship centres on transitions into higher education, investigating learning styles and the challenges moving into higher education. Additional considering the issues of belonging and building a community through student support mechanisms, one of which is using a structured year manager system approach. The other area I am passionate about it investigating critical thinking and problem solving considering the challenges and risks, collaborating with industry to create ‘real-world’ solutions and supporting the transition into graduate roles and employment.
Student voice is a cornerstone of my teaching philosophy and scholarship, influencing every aspect of work.
