Rahul joined the Department of Social Statistics at The University of Manchester in January 2024 as an interdisciplinary postgraduate researcher. With a deep interest in migration research and innovation, he focuses on statistical and computational methods of human mobility. He is significantly contributing to the domain of demography and migration studies with a specialisation in the estimation and forecasting of Indian migrants. From his perspective, migration is a game between expectations and satisfaction. It's a dynamic interplay between presumptions or anticipations at the place of origin to the sense of fulfilment or contentedness at the place of destination. His research aims to contribute to the study based on Duration Analysis specifically the Sustainability of Migration at the place of destination. His previous research was in the domain of health and migration, and his future studies are also inclined to explore the field of human mobility and its sustainability.
Prior to joining the University, he worked in different national and international organisations, as well as prominent institutes in India, in various roles and responsibilities to gain some on-ground experience in research and data analysis. He also participated and presented in numerous national and international conferences on migration and health.
Currently, Rahul is pursuing his PhD in Social Statistics under the supervision of Prof. Arkadiusz Wiśniowski, Prof. Maria Pampaka and Prof. Wendy Kay Olsen. He is also associated with The Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMI) and the Work and Equalities Institute (WEI) at The University of Manchester.
Rahul is an interdisciplinary researcher, and he is more aligned towards Migration Studies. Currently, he is exploring the dynamics of Indian Migration phenomena in terms of both internal and international aiming to understand the relationship between duration and characteristics of migration stay as well as the diverse socio-economic factors related to human mobility. He is also interested in delving into Social and Spatial Mobility, Life-course Study, Family Categorisation, Maternal and Child Health, Health Care Utilisation, Gender Inequality, Social Security, and India's Public Distribution System (PDS system).
