Dr Rashid Maqbool is a globally recognised scholar in the Management of Projects whose work sits at the forefront of sustainable construction, digital transformation, and project governance. A Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering and Management at The University of Manchester, he brings a distinguished international academic record shaped by appointments and fellowships across world‑leading institutions, including Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Dr Maqbool’s research portfolio spans sustainable and smart built environments, construction project management, renewable energy projects, AI‑enabled project analytics, and circular economy–driven construction practices. He has produced an extensive body of work published in top‑ranked SCI/SSCI journals such as Sustainable Development, Journal of Cleaner Production, Project Management Journal, Science of the Total Environment, and Energy. His contributions have earned repeated recognition in Stanford University’s Global Top 2% Scientists (2023–Onwards), underscoring the international impact and influence of his scholarship.

He has secured a series of prestigious international fellowships, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences President’s International Visiting Fellowship (PIFI) and the CIAS Visiting Research Fellowship at Corvinus University of Budapest, and has served as Co‑Investigator on major global research collaborations, including the UK–Japan British Council ISPF network on Society 5.0 innovations. His research leadership also extends to competitive funding in sustainable development, climate‑resilient communities, green skills, digital construction, and smart infrastructure initiatives.

With more than 13 years of academic experience across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, Dr Maqbool has established a strong teaching reputation grounded in inclusive, research‑informed pedagogy. At Manchester, he leads core postgraduate and undergraduate units in construction project management, project finance, smart and sustainable infrastructure, and engineering practice, earning consistently excellent student feedback. He supervises multiple PhD researchers funded through EPSRC DTP, University Presidential Scholarships, and international doctoral schemes, and contributes significantly to doctoral assessment at both national and international levels.

Beyond his research and teaching, Dr Maqbool provides meaningful academic leadership. He serves as the Departmental Lead for Appeals, Complaints and Disciplinary processes; holds editorial appointments in high‑quality journals; and plays senior roles in international conferences, including serving as Area Chair and Technical Committee Member for the 2026 Cambridge Conference Series on Smart and Sustainable Built Environments and associated events.
