Overview
Renfei Gao (PhD, FHEA) is a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Associate Professor) in International Business and Management at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), the University of Manchester. He was a Presidential Fellow (equivalent to Assistant Professor) at AMBS from 2020 to 2024. Prior to working in the UK, he worked at the University of Melbourne, Australia, as a Melbourne Early Career Academic Fellow in 2019 and a PhD Teaching Fellow in 2018. He finished PhD in Management in July 2019 at the University of Melbourne. He received a Master of Commerce (Management) from the University of Melbourne in 2015 and a Bachelor of Management from Beijing Normal University in 2013. He has taught subjects at both undergraduate and master levels, such as Strategic Management, International Business, Research Methods, and Chinese Business and Economy. His research interests include behavioral strategy, corporate governance, nonmarket strategy, and international business, with a special focus on emerging markets. His papers have appeared in leading journals and conference proceedings, such as Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (FT50, ABS4), Journal of Product Innovation Management (ABS4), International Journal of Operations and Production Management (ABS4), Strategic Organization (ABS3), Asia Pacific Journal of Management (ABS3), and Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings (3 pieces). His research has been presented extensively at leading international conferences, such as AOM, SMS, AIB, Asia AOM, IACMR, ANZAM, and ANZIBA. His PhD dissertation was awarded the Williams Prize of Excellent at the University of Melbourne. His papers were awarded or nominated for awards at leading international conferences, such as Peter Buckley & Pervez Ghauri Best Paper Prize for Early Career Researcher at AIB UKI conference, AOM IM Division GWU-CIBER Best Paper on Emerging Markets Award, Asia AOM Best Paper Award on Strategy, and ANZIBA Conference Best Paper Award. He serves on the Editorial Review Board at the Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and he has reviewed for leading journals, including JMS, JBV, SEJ, JPIM, GSJ, and BJM. He also won several Best Reviewer Awards at leading journals (BJM 2023, IBR 2022) and international conferences (AOM STR and IM divisions 2022). He was the winner of the PhD Best Paper Award of Management and Marketing at the University of Melbourne in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He has won the Chinese National Scholarship (2012) and Chinese National Graduate Scholarship (2014) during his study in China.
