Overview

Professor Roudsari is the Director of Undergraduate Education at the Division of Dentistry, University of Manchester. He spends 50% of his time on clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students and 50% of his time treating patients with complex restorative need in his role as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Specialist in Prosthodontics. Professor Roudsari has been heavily involved in the reform of the assessment strategy for the BDS and BSc OHS courses in Manchester, revision of the Manchester Dental programme, setup of outreach programmes in collaboration with dental corporates, and setup of Manchester Dental Programme in Mansoura University, Egypt. He is also heavily involved with the MSc and MScClin programmes in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics; which involves clinical teaching and supervision of postgraduate trainees, run of seminars and exams as well as supervision of research projects.  
 
Professor Roudsari has been the author and co-author of a number of publications, mainly on topics related to Prosthodontics, dental materials, and dental education. His own PhD project was on Assessment of Competence in Dental Education, which also included mathematical modelling or predicted clinical competence based on past performance. He is currently supervising PhD projects on Developing a Clinical Competence Framework for Saudi Dental Graduates and Introducing Exams Standard Setting to Malaysian Dental Schools. 
 
Professor Roudsari treats NHS patients in the secondary and tertiary care setting (by referral only) and works in teams that provide advanced dental restorative care. This includes, but is not limited to, provision of advanced prostheses (crowns, bridgework, and dental implants), management of patients with moderate to severe tooth wear, management of patients with hypodontia (born with few or no teeth), rehabilitation of patients with oral and maxillofacial defects (cleft palate, defects caused by cancer and trauma), management of patients with advanced root canal treatment needs and corrective periodontal (gum) surgery.

Biography

Professor Roudsari graduated with DDS from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2003. He started his career as a general dentist in a northern city of Iran. In 2005 he moved to Manchester and successfully completed his Masters degree (MSc) in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics with merit. He then received a year of clinical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (PGDip) in Manchester before taking two Senior House Officer (SHO) posts in Cardiff (2007) and Rotherham (2008) in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.

He returned to Manchester in 2009 to join the University of Manchester as a Clinical Lecturer and Specialist Registrar in Restorative Dentistry to further advance his clinical training and broaden his teaching and research experience. Professor Roudsari has been heavily involved in the run of the MSc and MScClin programmes in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics since 2009 and became the school lead for Assessment and Examination in 2014.

He went on the two specialist lists of Restorative Dentistry and Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics in 2016. He accepted a role as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Manchester University Foundation Trust in early 2017. He finished his PhD project was promoted to Senior Lecturer in late 2017 and took on his role as the Deputy Director of Undergraduate Education. In 2018 he stepped up to act as the Director of Undergraduate Education and received his chair status by promotion in 2020.

SuperDontia: YouTube channel launched to publish clinical educational videos for the use of undergraduate and postgraduate dental students. The channel has over 200 subscribers and 73000 hits.

IDealBlock: Computer software developed to assist dental students in revising their basic anatomical knowledge required to perform a successful ID block injection. The software incorporates a layer-by-layer technology to visualize different levels of soft tissue, hard tissue, and nerves when the injection is in progress. Adobe Flash is required to run the package.
