Prof
Reza is the Director of Undergraduate Education and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. He is also the Assessment Lead for the BDS and BSc OHS programmes of the Division of Dentistry. Reza is heavily involved with the MSc and MScClin programmes in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics; which involves clinical teaching and supervision of postgraduate trainees, run of seminars and exams as well as supervision of research projects.
Reza has been the author and co-author of a number of publications, mainly on topics related to Prosthodontics, dental materials, and dental education. Reza completed his PhD in Assessment of Competence in Dental Education and has invested interest in this field of research.
Reza sees NHS patients in the secondary care setting (by referral only) and works in teams that provide advanced restorative care. This includes, but is not limited to, provision of advanced prostheses, management of patients with moderate to severe tooth wear, management of patients with hypodontia (born with few or no teeth), rehabilitation of patients with oral and maxillofacial defects (cleft palate, defects caused by cancer and trauma), management of patients with advanced root canal treatment needs and corrective periodontal (gum) surgery.
Reza graduated with DDS from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2003 and started his career as a general dentist in a northern city of Iran. In 2005 he moved to Manchester and successfully completed his Masters degree (MSc) in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics with merit. He then received a year of clinical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (PGDip) in Manchester before taking two Senior House Officer (SHO) posts in Cardiff (2007) and Rotherham (2008) in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
He returned to Manchester in 2009 to join the University of Manchester as a clinical lecturer and also a specialist registrar in Restorative Dentistry to further advance his clinical training and broaden his teaching and research experience. Reza has been heavily involved in the run of the MSc and MScClin programmes in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics since 2009 and became the school lead for Assessment and Examination in 2014.
Reza went on the two specialist lists of Restorative Dentistry and Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics in 2016. He accepted a role as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Manchester University Foundation Trust in early 2017 and finished his PhD project before being promoted to his current role as the Deputy Director of Undergraduate Education.

IDealBlock: Computer software developed to assist dental students in revising their basic anatomical knowledge required to perform a successful ID block injection. The software incorporates a layer-by-layer technology to visualize different levels of soft tissue, hard tissue, and nerves when the injection is in progress. Adobe Flash is required to run the package.
