Personal profile


Working at the boundary between physical chemistry and physical pharmacy, I have expertise in solving complex interactions mechanisms at fluid interfaces through the application of optical and neutron reflectometry.  The dynamic and non-equilibrium interfacial behavior of systems in pharmaceutical and soft matter systems is of particular interest, including drug delivery systems.  The new information advances the understanding of systems spanning different structurally-related series of drugs and drug carriers, to nanoparticles, proteins, peptides and DNA, as well as polymer/surfactant mixtures.  The scientific problems of interest to me are related to healthcare as well as fundamental interest and practical applications in colloid and interface science.  I am Pharmacy Calculations Lead as well as Pharmaceutics Unit Co-Lead delivered to the Chinese Pharmaceutical University for undergraduate teaching, I am Director of the Pharmaceutical Industry Advanced Training MSc programme, I supervise 1 Postdoc and 1 PhD students currently, and I have published > 115 peer review articles (H-index = 36).  I am the UK delegate for the European Neutron Scattering Association, I serve as Treasurer of the UK Neutron Scattering Group, and I sit on beam time panels at neutron research institutes in France and Germany.
