Personal profile


Working at the boundary between physical chemistry and physical pharmacy, I have expertise in solving complex interactions mechanisms at fluid interfaces through the application of optical and neutron reflectometry.  The dynamic and non-equilibrium interfacial behavior of systems in pharmaceutical and soft matter systems is of particular interest.  The new information advances the understanding of systems spanning different structurally-related series of drugs and drug carriers, to nanoparticles, proteins, peptides and DNA, as well as synthetic polymer/surfactant mixtures.  The scientific problems of interest to me are related to healthcare as well as fundamental interest and practical applications in colloid and interface science.  I am also actively involved in undergraduate teaching as Pharmacy Calculations Lead as well as Pharmaceutics Unit Co-Lead delivered to the Chinese Pharmaceutical University, I am Director of the MSc Pharmaceutical Industry Advanced Training programme, I supervise 1 Postdoc and supervise/co-supervise 3 PhD students, and have published > 115 peer review articles.  Publications since the start of 2020 include 8 outputs in Journal of Colloid and Interface Science (impact factor, IF 10.0) as well as 3 in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces (IF 10.4) and 1 each in Chemical Science (IF 10.0), Nanoscale Horizons (IF 9.7) and Advances in Colloid and Interface Science (IF 15.2).
