Personal profile

Biography

I have acknowledged expertise in resolving complex soft matter interactions at fluid interfaces through combined and novel applications of neutron and optical reflectometry. My primary interest lies in understanding the dynamic and non-equilibrium interfacial behaviour of complex systems where parallel processes take place on different time and length scales. My research advances the understanding of a diverse range of interfacial phenomena in mixtures involving surfactants, polymers, proteins, peptides, cyclodextrins, nanoparticles, nucleic acids, drugs and lipids. The scientific problems I research are fundamental in nature and have widespread practical applications in formulation science as well as strong societal impact in health and the environment. I have published ~120 peer review articles with > 3300 citations and an H-index of 37.

I am Pharmacy Calculations Lead for all four years of the MPharm degree, for which I have overhauled the teaching delivery. I am Pharmaceutics Unit Co-Lead on a course I co-developed, which is delivered on the BSc in Clinical Pharmacy degree jointly with China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing (China). I am also Director of the Pharmaceutical Industry Advanced Training MSc programme.

I serve as Treasurer of the UK Neutron Scattering Group, I sit on neutron beam time peer review panels at research institutes in Grenoble (France) and Munich (Germany), and I was recently elected as the UK delegate of the European Neutron Scattering Association. I am an Honorary Professor in the chemistry department at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (Hungary).
