Personal profile

Overview

Roman's research area is experimental condensed matter physics, with an emphasis on fabrication of nanoscale low-dimensional devices based on graphene and other layered materials.

While each atomically thin crystal studied possesses unique physical properties on its own, isolated atomic planes can also be reassembled into artificial heterostructures made layer by layer in a precisely chosen sequence. Combining different materials together in such way develops artificial compounds tailored to have certain physical properties.

The use of modern state-of-the-art semiconductor device fabrication techniques and the development of new methods of material synthesis/manipulation are essential parts of Roman's research, which gives an ample space to explore the new physical phenomena and can bring an impact to future technologies.
