Personal profile

Overview

I am a human geographer interested in the intersection of geography, political economy, philosophy, and ethics. My teaching and research centres on the discourses and pedagogies around moral and political disagreement.

My doctoral thesis, completed in 2010, investigated the impacts of sustainable coffee certification in Vietnam. Post-PhD I worked as an External Collaborator for the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Switzerland, before returning to Vietnam to investigate garment factory working conditions as part of the ILO’s Better Work Programme.

My instinct has always been towards the heterodox and the holistic, hence my career in Geography is distinguished by a broad interest across the arts and sciences. I’m particularly interested in how a genuinely diverse, interdisciplinary and generalist approach can extend our understanding of difficult political and moral disagreements. My teaching philosophy is inclusive, open to all kinds of diversity, and focused on unpacking competing perspectives through lively, but reasoned dialogue.
