Personal profile

Overview

I am a Lecturer in International Education at the Manchester Institute of Education (MIE). I designed and coordinate the MIE Postgraduate Academic Englightenment Programme (PAE) - a bespoke student support programme for all PGT students at MIE. I am also the Social Responsibility Lead at MIE and SEED Social Responsibility Committee Member.

I am the founding convenor of the Eastern Higher Education Research Network (ETHER) and committee member of China and Higher Education Network (ChinaHE). I’m also part of the Higher Education research group (HERE@Manchester) and Education and Psychology research group at MIE.

I primarily teach on the MA International Education programme, including on course units Concepts and Practices of International Education, Engaging with Educational Research, etc. I am leading course unit EDUC71232 Intercultural Engagement at Work and in Communities (with individual student workplacement embedded).

Working as a cross-cultural psychologist, my research interests broadly focus on international students' acculturation experiences, specifically including their:

  • bio-ecological development in cross-cultural contexts
  • mental health and psychological wellbeing
  • social connections and interactions (focusing on service learning and social responsibility)
  • mobility and immobility
  • Study Abroad (Exchange) Programmes (Residence/Year Abroad Programme)
  • language, culture, and identity
  • creative research methods

I welcome collaboration, consultation, and research proposals in the above areas.

I currently supervise the following PhD candidates:
