Overview

I am currently a Wellcome Trust 4ward North Clinical PhD Fellow and Speciality Registrar in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine within the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, The University of Manchester.

My PhD title is "An integrated single cell and spatial transcriptomic study of synovial inflammation in psoriatic arthritis".

My research is funded through grants and fellowships awarded by the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR), the British Psoriatic Arthritis Consortium (BritPACT), the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, the Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research Manchester Biomedical Research Centre.

Biography

I received my undergraduate medical degree from The University of Manchester. I subsequently completed the 2-year UK foundation programme based in Mid-Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. During my second year as a foundation doctor the COVID-19 pandemic began. During the first wave of the pandemic I recruited and cared for patients as part of the RECOVERY trial which helped to identify treatments to reduce mortality associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

After completing foundation training, I was awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Rheumatology to undertake integrated clinical academic training (IAT) which included funding for a Masters in Research (MRes) in Experimental Medicine which I received in 2023 with distinction. In 2021 I completed the membership exams required to become a Collegiate Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP).

From 2020-2023 I was awarded grants and fellowships from the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR), the British Psoriatic Arthritis Consortium (BritPACT), the Houghton-Dunn Charitable Trust, and the National Psoriasis Foundation to investigate the single cell and spatial transcriptomic landscape of synovial inflammation in psoriatic arthritis. This formed the preliminary work for which I was awarded a Wellcome Trust 4ward North Clinical PhD Fellowship in 2024

Outside of medicine, I received training in piano performance, music history, and music theory at The Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Canada and graduated with an Associate Diploma (First Class Honours with Distinction) in 2012.
