PhD Research Title: Communal Explorations of Manchester's Acoustic and Cultural Ecologies through Soundscape Composition
Supervisors: Prof David Berezan & Prof Caroline Bithell
My practice-led research into soundscape composition combines electroacoustic composition with ethnographic fieldwork in order to facilitate collective learning spaces through community engagement with Manchester’s acoustic ecologies. Situated in the practice of Soundscape composition I look to methadologies found in decolonial efforts of anthropology to widen participation and diversity in the field. I run wokshops for communities to engage with their local soundscapes and offer the technology and skills to create their own narratives around these places. Through this my research touches on interdisciplinary themes of identity, wellbeing, ecology, memory, place and the more-than-human-world.
