Biography

After earning my BSc in Biology from the University of Bari, I pursued an MSc in Neurobiology at the University of Pavia, where I developed a strong interest in neuroimmunology. During my master's, I conducted a 16-month research project at the Laboratory of Inflammation and Nervous System Diseases at the Mario Negri Institute, exploring how murine isoforms of mannose-binding lectin contribute to complement activation in ischaemia/reperfusion injury. This experience led me to the University of Manchester, where I investigated the effects of interleukin (IL)-1 on the vasculature during intracerebral haemorrhage. I then began a PhD in Dr J. Grainger’s Lab at the Lydia Becker Institute, focusing on the role of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) proteins in stroke. During this time, I also identified a subset of Tim-4+ brain perivascular macrophages (PVMs), whose role I continued to explore as a Research Associate after completing my PhD in August 2023.

Recently, I transitioned into a new role, where I am investigating the immunophenotype of patients with neurological conditions.
