Biography

I completed a BA in Philology and Languages in Colombia and after working as a teacher of English and Spanish in that country I enroled in an MA in Applied Linguistics in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
After 4 years of teaching at higher education level in Colombia I was awarded a Teaching Assistantship to complete an MA in Translation and teach Spanish as a foreign language in the USA. Afterwards,  I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester. My final dissertation was on how beliefs affect language teachers’ uptake of technologies in their practice.
Soon afterwards, I worked as a research fellow at the University’s Translation Studies department where I was in charge of the development, implementation and delivery of an Online Postgraduate Certificate in Translation Studies. Subsequently, I started teaching Spanish at the University’s Language Centre (ULC) and have taught all levels of Spanish from Beginners to Proficient. More recently, in 2015, I became the senior language tutor for the ULC’s Non-Latin Script Languages (Japanese, Chinese and Arabic) team which I led and coordinated for 5 years. Whilst in this post, I also completed the PGCert in HE in 2018. I have also achieved the status of Senior Fellow (SFHEA). Currenlty I am a senior language tutor in Spanish.
