Personal profile

Research interests

I am a mental health epidemiologist at the University of Manchester. I currently hold a Senior Research Fellowship funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School for Primary Care. My expertise is in epidemiology of self-harm and suicide prevention. I specialise in utilising large-scale, population healthcare data to examine rates of suicidal behaviour, risk factors, treatment and outcomes for self-harm.

I am currently researching the primary care and social care needs of people who have harmed themselves.

I have previously worked on NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research concerned with guiding health service priorities for preventing suicide in England. I have also worked on a European Research Council-funded project using Danish registry data to examine rates of self-harm in adolescents and risk factors for suicide and other causes of death in young people.

I currently supervise post-doctoral researchers and PhD and Masters students. I welcome enquiries regarding PhD supervision.

Teaching

I am a dissertation supervisor for the University of Manchester's Master of Public Health programme.
