Dr, BSc (Hons), MRes, DPhil
Dr Wood's primary research interests lie in the use of gene therapy to treat rare inherited disorders. Currently he's based in the Stem Cell and Neurotherapies laboratory, at the University of Manchester, researching treatments for a form of inherited metabolic disease. He also has an interest in using gene therapy to treat inherited retinal disorders.

Dr Wood graduated from The University of Manchester in 2012 with a BSc (Honours) in Genetics with Industrial Experience and in 2013 with a MRes in Translational Medicine. He then undertook his DPhil in Clinical Neuroscience at Oxford University, under the supervision of Professor Robert Maclaren. His doctoral research focused on using recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors in a gene therapy strategy to treat autosomal recessive bestrophinopathy (ARB), an inherited retinal degeneration. Dr Wood is now based in the Stem Cell and Neurotherapies group at the University of Manchester, working with Professor Brian Bigger, where his research focusses on producing gene therapy treatments for neurological lysosomal storage disorders.
