Dr Shoobhangi Tyagi is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Manchester, working within the Department of Civil Engineering and Management. She is currently a lead researcher on the EU & UKRI-funded TRANSCEND project, focusing on global agricultural adaptation to climate change using open-source agro-hydrological models, earth observation data, and advanced computational tools.
Prior to this, she was a DST-SERB Overseas Doctoral Fellow at Purdue University, USA, and a Research Fellow at Hiroshima University, Japan. Shoobhangi holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, an M.Phil. in Environment and Sustainable Development from Banaras Hindu University, and an MSc in Water Science and Governance from TERI School of Advanced Studies.
Dr Tyagi's research seeks to advance the understanding of climate-agriculture-water interlinkages to promote sustainable and climate-resilient food systems. Her work focuses on integrating climate models, crop-water models, and socio-economic analyses to evaluate the trade-offs and co-benefits of climate adaptation strategies in agriculture. Her current research explores:
Her interdisciplinary approach spans hydrology, agronomy, climate science, economics, and policy, with ongoing collaborations in the UK, India, and the U.S. She has presented at leading international conferences (EGU, AGU, AOGS), published in top journals, and delivered guest lectures and workshops to train the next generation of climate and sustainability professionals.
Dr. Tyagi’s work directly informs climate policy, agricultural planning, and water management strategies in vulnerable regions. She regularly engages with government bodies, NGOs, and international development agencies to translate research into practice.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
