Personal profile

Overview

I am a Senior Lecturer within the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester. My special interest is dementia and I lead a CPD unit for health and social care staff in person-centred dementia care and deliver dementia care teaching on pre-registration nursing and social work programmes. I also have a keen interest in student experiences of health and social care staff engaging in postgraduate education.

Biography

I trained and qualified as a nurse in Birmingham prior to studying social policy at the University of York and going on to train as a social worker in Hull. Following practice in care management in adult services I furthered my interests in dementia by working in the voluntary sector with the Alzheimer's Society. Prior to taking up the position of course leader for the MSc in Dementia in Manchester, I set up and ran a dementia charity in the East Midlands called the Trent Dementia Services Development Centre. My interests cover many aspects of dementia, but in particular: care homes, acute hospitals and assitive technologies, additionally I have interests in dementia education for the health and social care sector and student experiences of post graduate education more broadly.
