I am currently the director of the Cockcroft Insitute for Accelerator Science, located at the Daresbury Laboratory. The Cockcroft Insitute a research collaboration between the universities of Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, Strathclyde University and STFC ASTeC.

Prior to joining the University of Manchester I was professor of Accelerator Science at Royal Holloway University of London. At Royal Holloway I led the accelerator physics group, became head of the physics department and the Executive Dean for Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
