Accepting PhD Students

PhD projects

I am always willing to work with highly motivated PhD students with a strong background in Cryptography, Number Theory and/or Algebraic Geometry. If these topics speak to you then reach out. Motivated Master Students interested in Cryptography research projects are recommended to get it touch.

Biography

Boris is a Lecturer (Assitant Professor) in Cryptography at The University of Manchester since January 2026. Before joining The University of Manchester, he was postdoctoral researcher at the Security and Cryptography  Lab at EPFL under the Supersision of Prof. Serge Vaudenay. He completed his PhD in February 2022 at the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Roma Tre (Italy) under the supervision of Prof. Christophe Petit and Prof. Fabrizio Barroero.

Boris' field of research is Post-Quantum Cryptography, that is Cryptography that withstands quantum adversaries/attackers. His expertise lies within Isogeny-Based Cryptography, a subfield of Post-Quantum Cryptography where the security of primitives relies on the problem of computing maps between some specific type of curves named elliptic curves.

He enjoys designing, analysing and optimising isogeny-based cryptographic promitives. He is the author of several isogeny-based key exchange, public key encryption and digital signature schemes. He is a contributor to SQIsign, the most compact post-quantum digital signature scheme, which recently (October 2024) moved to the second round of the second call of the NIST for post-quantum digital signatures.

Besides doing research,  Boris is actively engaged in contributing to the Cryptology community in general, witha particular focus on developing Cryptology in Africa. He contributed to the launch of a Master/PhD program in Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology in Cameroon. This program is partially funded by the Belgian government. Boris was the General Co-chair of Africacrypt 2024.
