Applied health researcher with particular interests in evidence synthesis and the evaluation of interventions to improve oral health.

Biography

Tanya is Professor of Healthcare Evaluation in the Division of Dentistry, School of Medical Sciences. An experienced academic, Tanya combines teaching and research with a focus on evaluation of interventions and care pathways to improve oral health and reduce disparities. 

Research interests

Tanya has extensive experience in conducting research into the prevention and management of oral diseases through the conduct of randomised controlled trials, non-randomised studies of interventions and healthcare delivery, and evidence synthesis. Her research activities have delivered a sustained output of high-quality publications, many of which have formed the basis of national and international clinical guidelines and public policy, and contributed to clinical and societal impact. She has a particular interest in the application of advanced methods for evidence synthesis with an extensive track record of Cochrane systematic reviews.

My collaborations

Tanya has active collaborations with researchers from Europe and the US, and with professional organizations including the World Dental Federation (FDI) and the American Dental Association. Her international reputation has resulted from substantial and continued involvement in oral health research, with leading roles in projects across the different funding streams of NIHR, the largest UK funder of applied health research. These roles include chief investigator, co-applicant (methodological lead), or invited independent expert steering committee member.
