Personal profile

Overview

I am current PhD Student in the Department of Geography. My research is titled 'The Risk Posed by the Legacy of Industrial Pollution in the West Pennine Moors: Fire and Climate Change Induced Remobilisation'. I am supervised by Dr Emma Shuttleworth and Dr Gareth Clay.

The West Pennine Moors are a large area of upland blanket bog, approximately 240 km2 in size located to the north of Manchester. They are completely surrounded by large towns, including Bolton, Bury and Blackburn which were key sites of industrial activity in the 1800s and 1900s. My research aims to determine whether the Moors act as a significant store of industrial era pollutants from these towns and whether the erosion and fire regime of the area could be leading to significant flux of pollutants from the Moors.

My primary interests centre predominantly around peatland science and pollution. However, I have also worked in Environmental Consultancy where I specialised in Flood Risk Management, so this is an issue that I am also interested in.
