Personal profile

Overview

Tom is a Research Fellow in Health Economics, and lecturer on the MSc in Economics.

Biography

I am an Economist with over ten years experience in academic research/teaching and experience in private consultancy. After graduating from an MSc in Economics from the University of Manchester in September 2010, I joined as a Research Associate in Health Economics and was later promoted to Research Fellow in 2017. Over this period, my research has focused on the development and application of econometric evaluation methods for population-level and national interventions in health care delivery, organisation and financing using large administrative datasets. I am interested in vulnerable populations and my PhD thesis focused on substance misuse.

I am currently working as part of the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration (NIHR ARC) for Greater Manchester. I am working in the Evaluation Theme, which is focused on: development of rapid evaluation methodologies to support evidence-based innovation in health and care settings; and ensuring research includes patient populations with the greatest need.

I am a Lecturer on the MSc in Economics, for the Economics of Health Module (ECON60342): specifically teaching material on the supply, organisation and financing of health care and applied econometrics.
