Personal profile

Overview

Jane's research, funded by the School of Social Sciences, examines banking industry and regulatory responses to Authorised Push Payment Fraud (APPF).

Motivated by interactions with APPF victims during her career in banking and financial services, she critically challenges assertions that fraud victims are gullible, negligent or simply authors of their own misfortune. Her research connects APPF to broader developments in the digital age: changes to consumption patterns, payment technologies, and financial regulation. She argues that the criminogenic risks associated with these developments should be reframed as a problem of technological design, rather than that of victims' "gross negligence" as defined under financial regulation.

In addition to her PhD research, Jane continues to hold leadership and management positions in the private banking industry, focusing on the design and execution of anti-financial crime programmes in cross jurisdictional contexts.
