Personal profile

Biography

I am a senior lecturer in Applied Mathematics and Materials Science based jointly in the departments of Mathematics and Materials. My research interests lie within the area of continuum mechanics with an emphasis on solid mechanics - particularly elasticity and viscoelasticity. My current focus is to understand how microstructure affects mechanical behaviour in biological soft tissues and composite materials used in industrial engineering applications.

I completed my CASE PhD in Applied Mathematics at the University of Manchester in 2012 before being awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship (2013-2014) and an EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2014-2017) both of which were focussed on imaging and mathematically modelling tendons. I was appointed as a lecturer here in 2017 and promoted to senior lecturer in 2020.

Social responsibility

I am the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility lead in the Department of Materials. Please get in touch with me if you have any suggestions for making a positive change relating to any of these issues at our university.
