Biography

Data Skills Training

I am Professor of Data Literacy in the Social Sciences within the Department of Social Statistics and Cathie Marsh Institute.

I am Service Director of Training and User Support, a member of the Senior Leadership Group and Co-Investigator for the UK Data Service. I strategically lead the UK Data Service programme of training events, online training resources and user support for researchers and lecturers using the quantitative and qualitative data hosted by the UK Data Service.

I have held the following teaching roles at University of Manchester:

- Lecturer and dissertation supervisor: Dissertation Module, MSc Social Research Methods and Statistics

- Lecturer: Unequal Societies, a first year undergraduate module on using data to explore health inequalities

Research

My two research interests are (1) data literacy skills (2) health inequalities. Before joining the University of Manchester, I held research roles within academia, the voluntary sector and at the Office for National Statistics as a survey researcher on large-scale national surveys.
