Victor Levi received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, in 1986 and 1991, respectively. From 1982 to 2001, he was with University of Novi Sad, Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, where he became a Full Professor in 2001. He was with the University of Manchester, Manchester, U.K. from 2001 to 2003, and then with United Utilities and Electricity North West, from 2003 to 2013. In 2013, he rejoined the University of Manchester. Victor has both long-term industrial experience working for the UK distribution companies and long-term university experience. Dr Levi has published two books on power system planning and application of computational methods in power engineering and 80+ papers in the leading international journals and conference proceedings. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.
I am a Senior Lecturer in Power Systems in the School of EEE, Power & Energy Division. I received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, in 1986 and 1991, respectively. From 1982 to 2001, I was with University of Novi Sad, Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, where he became a Full Professor in 2001. I was with the University of Manchester, Manchester, U.K. from 2001 to 2003, and then with United Utilities and Electricity North West, from 2003 to 2013. My industry positions included Strategic Planning Manager, Network Modelling Manager and Quality of Suppy Manager. In 2013, I rejoined the University of Manchester. I have both long-term industrial experience working for the UK distribution companies and long-term university experience. My areas of expertise are strategic and development planning of transmission and distribution networks, such as, network modelling including low carbon technologies and 'smart solutions', load forecasting, security analyses and assessment of compliance with planning standards, voltage-VAR, fault level, harmonics and transient stability studies, risk/reliability analysis, use-of-system pricing and cost analysis. I have published two books on power system planning and application of computation methods in power engineering and 80+ papers in the leading journals and international conference proceedings. I am a Senior Member of IEEE.
The main research interests are impact of low carbon technologies-LCTs (e.g. solar and wind generation, electric vehicles and heat pumps, electric storage) and 'smart solutions' (e.g. dynamic reconfiguration, DSM, dynamic ratings, co-ordinated voltage control, SVC, etc.) in distribution and transmission network planning and operation.
One current research strand is analysis of the impact of LCTs and 'smart solutions' on reliability of distribtution and transmision networks including reliability models of ageing components. Another, closely linked area, is joint replacement and reinforcement planning of transmission networks using probabilistic approach.
Optimal planning and operation of distribution and transmission networks is another research strand - complex optimisation models are often involved.
Current work on dynamic impact of distribution networks on transmission networks will continue in future. More attention will be paid to the dynamic performace of modern transmission and distribution networks.
