Personal profile
Overview
William il-kuk Kang, a Senior Lecturer of International Business and Management at the Alliance Manchester Business School of the University of Manchester (UK), has been serving as Programme Director of MSc in Business Analysis and Strategic Management since 2020 and AMBS Academic Digital Learning Lead since 2024. He has actively involved in enhancing the programme's contributions to local stakeholders through his engagements with external consultancy projects and knowledge transfer. In 2023, he introduced the innovative "Business Olympics" to the programme, a competition where students apply their programme-acquired skills and knowledge to run a virtual company, to further enhance students' experience.
His teaching spans a wide range of topics at both UGT and PGT levels including: Organisational Design and Strategy, Professional Analytical Skills, Responsible Business in a Global Environment, International Business, and Global Contexts of Business and Management to name a few. Despite the diversity in course sizes and topics, his teachings has consistently received positive feedback from students. This led to his recognition for teaching excellence by the head of the school and a commendation in Inclusive Education and Students' Sense of Belonging at the University Teaching Excellence Award 2022.
William's research focuses on configurational explanations of organisations' behaviour, specifically examining the social mechanisms that exist between actors, culture, and institutions within contexts such as CSR and international business. He also has an interest in pedagogic research, particularly on the management of group projects and online learning. His research has been presented at leading international conferences - Academy of International Business (AIB), British Academy of Management (BAM), European International Business Academy (EIBA), European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), and Learning, Teaching and Student Experience (LTSE).
Beyond the univeristy, William actively engages in knowledge transfer to the local community. One notable example of this is his involvement in a local college where he delivered introductory sessions of International Business to secondary school students aspiring to pursue higher education.
