Dr. Xiaomin Xu currently serves as a Lecturer in Ground Engineering at the University of Manchester. Previously, he was deeply involved in research at the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) within the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. He earned his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Zhejiang University (ZJU) in 2012, MSc in Geotechnical Engineering from Chongqing University in 2007, and BEng in Civil Engineering from Chongqing University in 2004.

Xiaomin specializes in innovative instrumentation, structural health monitoring, smart earthworks & geo-infrastructures, multiscale numerical modelling, and soil dynamics & earthquake engineering. He has contributed to numerous challenging case studies for high-profile projects such as Crossrail, HS2, Network Rail, London Underground, and Bank Station Capacity Upgrade (BSCU), among others. His work has led to significant impact and benefits for resilient, resource-efficient, and cost-effective smart infrastructures. Notable achievements include award-winning smart earthworks at Hooley Cutting and HS2 Tile Houselane Cutting, as well as smart foundations at BSCU.

Xiaomin has been a chartered engineer since 2010 and possesses a wealth of practical experience in resilience and smart infrastructure in both the United Kingdom and China for over a decade.
