Dr. Xun (Bruce) Tong is an Associate Professor in the Division of Management Sciences and Marketing (MSM) at Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester. Prior to joining Manchester, he was a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He earned his PhD in Operations Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2018.
Dr. Tong’s research focuses on environmental sustainability, labor dynamics, innovation in supply chain management, and crowdfunding. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Operations Management (UTD 24, FT 50), Manufacturing & Service Operations Management Journal (UTD 24, FT 50), Decision Sciences Journal (ABS 3), Transportation Research Part E (ABS 3), International Journal of Production Economics (ABS 3), and Business & Society (ABS 3).
He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Operations Management (UTD 24, FT 50, ABS 4*) and OMEGA (ABS 3).
He has received research awards, including Best Paper Finalist honors in Academy of Management Conference and Decision Sciences Conference. He received a competitive individual research grant (50,000 euros) funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) in 2024 .
Dr. Tong is currently considering PhD candidates with research interests in supply chain and operations management, particularly in his research areas outlined above. Ideal applicants should be self-motivated, possess a strong academic record, and demonstrate the ability to develop expertise in quantitative empirical research methods, including econometric analysis and statistical techniques. Candidates should also be capable of quickly acquiring the skills needed to collect and analyze large datasets from various sources using Python or other relevant tools. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential.
