My research interest lies in exploring the intricate interplay between radiation-induced alterations in extracellular matrix (ECM) structures and cellular behavior, particularly in the context of cancer biology. Leveraging cutting-edge mass spectrometry techniques, I aim to meticulously characterize the structural modifications elicited by radiation within the ECM matrix. Subsequently, I delve into the dynamic responses of diverse cell types to these altered ECM environments. Transitioning from cellular observations, I employ state-of-the-art RNA sequencing methodologies to unveil the underlying transcriptomic changes triggered by radiation exposure within these matrices in cells. By integrating multi-omic data, my goal is to unravel the complex molecular mechanisms underpinning cancer progression and identify novel therapeutic targets. Through this comprehensive approach, I aspire to contribute to the advancement of personalized cancer therapies and improved treatment outcomes.
Completed Master’s in Biotechnology from Dr Ambedkar College, India
Embarking on an illustrious journey in the realm of biotechnology and cancer research, I, Yamini Meshram, have dedicated my academic and professional career to unraveling the complexities of cancer biology and the innovative technologies aimed at its diagnosis and treatment.
Academic Foundations and Pioneering Research
My academic odyssey began with a Master's in Biotechnology from Dr. Ambedkar College, Nagpur, India, in 2018, laying the groundwork for my fascination with cancer research. The culmination of my Master's program was marked by my dissertation work on "Genotyping & Characterization of Colorectal Carcinoma Transgenic Murine Models," a project that deepened my understanding of cancer genetics and fueled my passion for cancer research. This pivotal experience set the stage for my subsequent academic pursuits.
Driven by my Master's research findings, I embarked on a PhD in Cancer Sciences at The University of Manchester, with an expected completion in 2024. My research focuses on exploring the radiation-induced alterations in extracellular matrix (ECM) structures and their impact on cellular behavior in cancer. Employing cutting-edge techniques like mass spectrometry, advanced bioimaging and RNA sequencing, my goal is to unveil novel therapeutic targets, thereby contributing to the advancement of personalized cancer therapies.
Professional Growth and Teaching Expertise
My professional journey is marked by a series of progressively responsible positions, starting with my role as a Research Fellow at ICAR – Central Citrus Research Institute, where I honed my research and problem-solving skills. Advancing in my career, I embraced the role of a Scientific Editor and Bioinformatics Trainee at Saibiosystems Pvt. Ltd., where I furthered my expertise in scientific data analysis and bioinformatics.
At The University of Manchester, I have had the privilege of serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, contributing to the education of the next generation of scientists. These teaching roles have not only enriched my educational skills but also reinforced my dedication to the mentorship of budding scientists.
Contributions to Science and Recognitions
My unwavering dedication to cancer research and biotechnology has been recognized through numerous accolades, including the National Overseas Scholarship for PhD studies and awards from the Institute of Scholars for research excellence. My publications in esteemed journals contribute valuable insights into cancer immunology, vaccine development, and genetic coding potential, reflecting my commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
Engagement and Leadership in the Scientific Community
Beyond research and teaching, I actively participate in the scientific community through memberships in prestigious associations and leadership roles, including PGR student representative and committee member of the Doctoral Academy Graduate Society. These roles underscore my commitment to fostering a collaborative academic environment.
Looking Ahead
As I continue my journey at The University of Manchester, my quest for knowledge and desire to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer remain undiminished. My research, teaching, and voluntary engagements are testaments to my dedication to this cause, and I eagerly anticipate contributing further to the scientific community and beyond.
