Overview

Yao is a quantitative researcher specialising in applied health economics. His research focuses on topics such as health system decentralisation, the determinants of health expenditures, and the impacts of risky health behaviours.

Yao obtained a first-class honours degree in BSc Economics in 2018 and a distinction in MSc Economics in 2019 from the University of Manchester. In 2021, Yao began his PhD in Health Economics at the School of Health Sciences and was awarded a scholarship by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration – Greater Manchester (ARC-GM). In September 2024, he was appointed as a Research Fellow in Health Economics at the Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research.
