Yawei Zhao is a Lecturer in Social and Cultural Geography at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on digital technologies, urban spaces, and rural-urban relationships, and she is working on the impacts and implications of urban artificial intelligence. Yawei is also interested in the intersection of lifestyle migration and the urbanization of small cities. Her research has been funded by the IJURR Foundation and Mitacs Canada and appeared in Area, Cities, and Geoforum. Before joining the University of Manchester, Yawei worked as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary, where she obtained her PhD in Geography. She previously studied at McGill University, City University of Hong Kong, and National University of Singapore.
