Overview
Yu (June) Zhu (she/her) is a second-year PhD student in sociology. Her doctoral research project is about queer academic activism in transnational Chinese queer diasporas in the UK and the US, exploring how Chinese queer academics engage in queer activism through knowledge (re)production, translation, academic-based advocacy, educational activities, and other practices. Collaborating with the United Proud Women (a queer-womxn-led NGO registered under Section 501(c)(3) in the U.S.) to conduct community-based LGBTQ+-inclusive education, she was awarded the Sociology Research Impact and Engagement Prize 2025.
