Overview

My current role involves a range of research and teaching activities along with leading Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) initiatives within the Division. My main research interests concern uderstanding service user and staff experiences and perceptions of suicidality and the development of psychological interventions to prevent suicide. I am passionate about involving people with 'lived expeience' of the issues that we teach about and research. I have taken a leading role in facilitating Patient & Public Involvement in research and in education throughout the Division and co-ordinater the Community Liaison Group attached to the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I am particularly keen to support and contribute to research that directly addresses the unmet needs and priorities of people who use clinical services.  I provide clinical and methodological supervision to post-graduate research students and junior researchers. I am a Registered Nurse with extensive experience of working in the NHS. I am also a Director for Stockport & District Mind.

Biography

I am a Registered Nurse with over 30 years experience of working in senior positions in the NHS  including Ward Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Consultant Nurse. I grew up in Cheshire but have spent some time living abroad.

Teaching

I teach on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology for which I am co-lead for the Privilege, Power, Position & Intersectionality module. I teach Patient & Public Involvement in Research, Engaging the Commiunity in psychological interventions, and Social determinents of mental health. I also provide in-house training for research assistants and students regarding participant care and safety focussing of identifying and managing suicide self-harm. I offer qualitative methodological expertise during research supervision including specialist tutorial guided learning for particular methods (e.g., Grounded Theory, IPA etc)
