In February 2022, Dr Amit Jinabhai was awarded Senior Fellowship of Advance HE by the UoM's Leadership in Education Awards Programme (LEAP) Assessment Committee, following his submission of an extensive teaching portfolio evidencing how his high-quality teaching consistently meets the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for a Senior Fellow.
In awarding Dr Jinabhai this esteemed accolade, the LEAP Assessment Committee, Chaired by Prof Judy Williams, commented:
Dear Amit,
Congratulations on your Senior Fellowship award!
Please find below the feedback from the LEAP assessors on your application.
On behalf of the LEAP team I would like to thank you for taking part in this programme and particularly for submitting your fellowship application during these challenging times.
“You have given such a detailed account of your teaching, research and practice. Your evidence clearly aligns your work and expertise with the UKPSF criteria, and it showcases your ability to reflect on and analyse your own practice, taking into account the experiences and perspectives of others.
I noted that you are strongly committed to understanding how your practice intersects with research into teaching and learning and have been recognised for your ability to take your own perspective and understanding and make it available to your students.
You were also able to make the voice of your students a true part of your application, showing how you reflected on and acted from their own feedback and experience. This is a wonderfully rich, evidenced portfolio that offers a real insight to your passion and commitment to shaping Optometry.
You are clearly an excellent, and indeed, decorated teacher and scholar who inspires all that work with you. It was interesting to hear how you reframed the teaching content based on your professional, and external, practice.”
