The Mabel Mansfield Cooper PGR prize of £750 goes to a PhD student to be used towards their studies (e.g. books, equipment, travel to another lab, conference attendance etc.). It is open to all PhD students within the School of Human Communication, Development and Deafness.
My application requested the money for additional out of University training and public and patient engagement activities. Specifically qualitative methods training from the University of Oxford would support the second stage of my research into the impact of communication difficulties in a high functioning autistic population. A public engagement activity for parents, children and professionals involved in the first stage of the study would also be funded. This would give children a chance to take part in a share and related art activity while parents could listen to results, take part in discussions and network.
