Advancing Carbon Quantification for Net Zero: Innovating Retrofitting Homes to Reduce Whole-life Carbon Towards Carbon Neutrality of Greater Manchester

Project Details

Description

The project (funded by EPSRC and GMCA) extends the UoM team’s research expertise in infrastructure carbon modelling, knowledge of carbon quantification frameworks and carbon inventories for modelling and quantifying WLC of home retrofitting works. The aim of the project is the development of a carbon calculator based on principals of RICS’ Whole Life-cycle Carbon (WLC) assessment framework for WLC quantification of the materials and the products used in home retrofitting. The developed carbon calculator will enable comparing Embodied Carbon (EC) impact of various solutions and making decisions on best materials and installations that would ensure the lowest WLC of the retrofitting projects.
