Developing a framework to assess the environmental cost of satellite data with consideration of technical, economic and governance aspects

Project Details

Description

Working with experts in sustainable technology and business, Callala, this project will develop a framework to assess the environmental and societal impacts of a space mission. The multi-disciplinary team will allow this project to be undertaken with consideration of the current technical, economic and governance landscape. Through literature review and multi-disciplinary discussions potential metrics for assessment will be identified and collated. The suitability of these will be assessed, and an initial investigation of information availability will be undertaken. This will highlight areas that are straightforward to assess and those where there is a lack of publicly available information. Finally, a framework will be developed that could be used to assess the impact of a space mission, and a roadmap for future development will be outlined.
