Mental health service provision and suicide: a national study in England and Wales

Project Details

Description

The aim of this study was to examine the relation between the implementation of the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health (NCISH) recommendations - taken from our report Safety First (2001) - and subsequent changes in the patient suicide rate. All NHS mental health service providers in England and Wales were asked to complete a service provision survey in 2002, 2004 and 2006.

The study was commissioned by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) and concluded in March 2011. Findings were published in a research paper in The Lancet.
