Serious violence by people with mental illness: a national clinical survey

The study aimed to establish the number of offenders convicted of serious violence in 2004 who had been in contact with mental health services in the 12 months before the offence and to examine their social, offence and clinical characteristics compared to patients known to have committed homicide in the same period.

The study was commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) and concluded in February 2011.

Findings from the study have been published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.
