    Abstract

Resonant photoemission measurements of (Formula presented) (100) at the Ti (Formula presented) edge are reported. For transitions from 2p to 3d states of (Formula presented) symmetry there is a resonance enhancement of the intensity of the band-gap defect states by a factor of 6. The valence band shows resonance enhancements for transitions to states of both (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) symmetry. The maximum enhancement of 3 for the high binding energy indicates that the whole of the O 2p derived valence band is hybridized with Ti 3d states, with the higher binding-energy part being more strongly mixed. The defect-state resonances are broader than the absorption resonances and have a width of about 4 eV due to the multiplet structure.
