    Abstract

3D to 2D pattern unwrapping (3D??2DPU) using virtual human model is a quick solution for apparel pattern making to ensure the perfect fit right at first time. Moreover, it allows combined fashion designing and pattern drawing in a single step and even it can be used by a non-expert of pattern techniques. An ideal CAD system for 3D??2DPU will contain one or more parametric virtual mannequins representing the anthropometry of target customers, size database for 3D grading, database of ease allowances for both close-fitting and loose-fitting garments and library of different fabric properties. This paper will highlight a parametric virtual human model developed by Sayem et al and other recent advancements in pattern flattening techniques towards the development of an ideal CAD system for 3D??2DPU.
