Abstract
This paper reports a recently developed low profile Octagonal Ring Antenna (ORA) for wide band dual polarized aperture arrays. The ORA demonstrates its unique robustness in large scale applications and represents a novel and potentially breakthrough technology based on a planar, easily fabricated, structure. It is expressly designed to be a low cost, low loss, wideband array. Different feeding methods for the ORA elements have been investigated and the resulting finite arrays have been fabricated and measured. The basic electromagnetics has been confirmed with flexible integrated feedlines. The key EM performance of the immersed elements for wide field of view applications has been analysed. © 2012 IEEE.
