Abstract

The wider application of coating technologies requires that design engineers and others who specify coatings should have access to a procedural basis for selection, ideally one which lends itself to computer implementation. Here we report such a basis which involves a nine stage methodology supported by seven selection rules. The approach facilitates the elimination of unsuitable coatings, to arrive as a selection which optimally fulfils the operating needs.
