Abstract
Internationally community pharmacists have extended their role by becoming involved in providing medicine optimisation, health promotion and screening services. In the Great Britain (GB) new pharmacy contracts frameworks (NPCF) formalised these changes from 2005 onwards. Previous research conducted in 2006 in England and Wales has suggested that increased workload and insufficient remuneration initially impeded the community pharmacist's involvement in service provision outlined in the NPCF. Further evidence also suggests that work related stress attributed to workload intensification could impact on patient care.
