title = "A New Scanning System for the Magnetic Imaging of Corrosion Under Insulation using Quantum Well Hall Effect Sensors",
abstract = "Further to the work presented in BINDT 2023 [1], an improved scanning system using novel Quantum Well Hall Effect (QWHE) sensors had been developed [2][3]. The improved scanning system makes use of a modified woodturning lathe as its base to create a system capable of measuring a wide variety of pipe samples with differing lengths (up to 1.2m) and widths (from an internal diameter of 40mm to 230mm). This improved scanning system has been used to trial QWHE sensors as a Corrosion under insulation (CUI) detector on a 60mm diameter pipe that had previously been used in the Oil and Gas industry. The QWHE sensor system was able to locate 3 separate examples of wall thickness loss due to corrosion without removing the composite wrapping that the pipe was encased in. Each of these scans took approximately 4 minutes at an effective resolution of 4mm in X by 10° rotation in Y.",
