    Abstract

A novel approach to online predictive control methods for pH optimization in multiply paperboard was studied. The model of pH helps the operators, because by having an accurate real-time model of the pH behavior, they can trust the online meters, or at least have a fair idea of when they are reading erroneously. The models were developed in a mathematical modeling package in which simulations were carried out before deploying them in the mill. The model has aided in the monitoring and optimization of chemicals and enables the pH to be controlled more smoothly by displaying real time information.
