Abstract
Manchester City Council has developed a parenting programme for the parents of adolescents. The report presents the findings of a pilot evaluation of the programme, examining how parents accessed it, their experience of the programme and the outcomes for themselves and their adolescent child, drawing on data from a postal survey of parents, outcome data for parents and young people using a number of different standardised measures and qualitative data from interviews with parents. The study concluded that parents had benefited both through the skills they had acquired and the social support that group attendance had provided. There was less direct evidence on the outcomes for young people though these also appeared positive. Further work is needed to examine the durability of the effects and the services needed to provide continuing support for families with more severe problems.
